WWE Rumor Mill: WWE to focus on Ronda Rousey as a Solo Star
In the world of professional wrestling, there are few names as recognizable as Ronda Rousey.
The former UFC fighter has made quite the impression on the WWE Universe since crossing over to the world of sports entertainment. And now, it seems that WWE is planning to push Rousey as a solo performer.
Rousey's journey to WWE stardom began back in 2014 when she and the Four Horsewomen were VIP guests at WWE's annual SummerSlam PPV. It was clear that there was a mutual admiration between Rousey and the world of professional wrestling.
During an interview with WWE.com that night, Rousey was asked whether she would like to cross over to pro-wrestling from MMA, to which she replied, "You never know." Little did she know at the time that this offhand comment would set the stage for her eventual transition to WWE.
A year later at WrestleMania 31, Rousey made a memorable appearance alongside The Rock, taking part in a brief segment against authority figures Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
Many fans believed it to be a build-up for a mixed tag match at the following year's 'Mania. However, nothing came of this segment in the end.
Two years later during WWE's inaugural Mae Young Classic Tournament, WWE teased the idea of a match between the Four Horsewomen of WWE versus the Four Horsewomen of MMA.
Rousey, along with Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, faced off against Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley during Shayna Baszler's match at the tournament. The potential for a showdown between these two iconic groups sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe.
According to a report from Cageside Seats, WWE is still interested in pursuing a Four Horsewomen feud, but it won't be happening at this year's Survivor Series PPV. The report also suggests that the company may have cooled on the idea altogether and instead is focusing on building Rousey as a solo superstar.
After their initial face-off at the Mae Young Classic, WWE.com posted a poll asking fans who they would like to see Ronda face in her debut. The options included Charlotte, Stephanie McMahon, Bayley, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Lana, Naomi, Natalya, Becky Lynch, and Alexa Bliss.
Currently, Charlotte is leading the poll with 30% of the votes, while Stephanie McMahon is right behind her with 29% of the votes. This may indicate that WWE wants to focus more on Rousey than the other three members of the Four Horsewomen.
In a report from Fightful.com on August 8th, it was revealed that Rousey had started training in pro-wrestling at 205 LIVE Superstar, The Brian Kendrick's wrestling school. This news further solidifies WWE's commitment to building Rousey as a solo star.
It's quite obvious that Rousey's celebrity status outstrips that of her teammates, and due to this fact, WWE may lean more towards pushing Rousey as a solo superstar.
As the speculation continues to swirl around Ronda Rousey's future in WWE, one thing is for certain – her impact on the world of sports entertainment is undeniable.
Whether she goes on to have a showdown with the Four Horsewomen or embarks on a solo career, there's no denying that Rousey will continue to be a major player in the WWE landscape. Only time will tell what the future holds for this trailblazing athlete turned sports entertainment sensation.
